Victory Arch & Avenue of Honour

The Ballarat Avenue at 22 kilometres is the longest avenue of Honour in Australia & the earliest known memorial avenue to have been planted in Victoria. It represents an egalitarian approach to the commemoration of Soldiers where service rank was not a consideration

Arch of Victory was erected in 1920 at a cost of 2,105 Pounds, the Arch was officially opened on the 3rd anniversary of the 1st tree planting in the Avenue by H.R.H Edward Albert, Prince of Wales

A total of 3,771 trees were originally planted in the Avenue between June 1917 & August 1919 -
one for each soldier, sailor, nurse from the district who served during the First World War
