Chinese Burning towers

The lure of gold penetrated far & wide attracting diggers across the world

Amongst these were the Chinese miners, who came to the Ovens Goldfields in the 1850's.
At its peak over 5,000 Chinese hopefuls lived in the area

The Chinese quickly formed their owned community & "Chinatown" was established

Built in 1883-11884 the Chinese Burning towers still stand today at the historic Beechworth cemetry
